Peter's Birthday Hat (Aurorasauras & Artie Bear, Book 33)

Aurorasauras & Artie Bear, Book 33 by Paul Rawly

On a breezy morning, the friends find a small tag on Peter the scarecrow's old coat: it's the day he was first put in his field. "Your birthday!" says Aurorasauras. Peter's hat has a drooping brim and a hole in the top, so the friends decide to make him a birthday hat.

Percy finds a sturdy spare hat and Peggy brings her sewing things. Pip wants a blue band, Polly wants a yellow flower and Artie wants a tiny flag. Soon there is hardly any hat left to see, and a gust of wind sends the ribbons flying. "Perhaps that is a bit too much birthday," laughs Artie. So they choose a broad blue band, a small sunflower and a green leaf from Kit. When the grown-ups have gone, a quiet, straw-soft voice whispers, "Thank you. I can see the whole field again."

A gentle story about kindness, making things and knowing when less is more.

The story is followed by 10 activity pages with story questions, feelings prompts and drawing spaces to share together. For children aged 3 to 7.
